What is IMCM®?
IMCM® stands for International Multidisciplinary Change Management and is a comprehensive guide to successful and holistic change management.
What is IMCM® suitable for?
International Multidisciplinary Change Management offers a variety of solutions for every transformative project – for every change – as well as assistance and orientation points for the successful and sustainable implementation of the corresponding change. This reference framework is to change management as PMI® or PRINCE2® are to project management, but with the difference that IMCM® is the only international change management guideline to date that was co-developed by major universities as well as amontis and other long-standing experts, thus combining excellent theoretical soundness with concrete practical references.
How is that possible?
IMCM® attaches great importance both to the meaningfulness of a change for the respective instance itself and to the examination of the possible effects. International Multidisciplinary Change Management offers a wide range of tools for transparent and precise preparatory work so that action can be taken in line with the context and requirements.

Change management vs. project management
Multidisciplinary change management
International Multidisciplinary Change Management focuses primarily on the effects of change on companies, because change affects and influences different areas of a company.
For this reason, a multidisciplinary approach and a multidimensional view and analysis of change is the main subject of International Multidisciplinary Change Management. IMCM® analyzes change in the following 6 dimensions:
The 6 dimensions of change
IMCM® analyzes changes in the following 6 dimensions:
Interactions, roles, synergies
Status, solidarity, dynamics
Structure, resources, functions
Authority, positions, permanence
Identity, ambition, evolution
Various disciplines are used in these dimensions and, by combining psychology, anthropology, management and economics, form a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to successfully implementing change.
The change life cycle
International Multidisciplinary Change Management is characterised by the holistic nature of change management.
While project management usually consists of concept development, implementation and consolidation, the International Multidisciplinary Change Management formulates 9 phases of change management along the change life cycle with which a change can be implemented successfully, effectively and sustainably.
Often underestimated or overlooked, the actual beginning and foundation stone is skipped. Similarly, change management does not end with the successful implementation of the change. In fact, holistic and successful change management ends with anchoring the change in the company. Conception and implementation are therefore only 2 of the 9 phases of the change life cycle, which in its entirety helps change management to succeed.
The 9 phases of change
Holistic change management does not begin with a concept, nor does it end with the implementation of the change. Comprehensive change management follows the change life cycle. Consisting of 9 phases, the change life cycle begins with the decision to change.
1st phase:
Exploration
2nd phase:
Diagnosis
3rd phase:
In-depth investigations
4th phase:
Concept
5th phase:
Kick-off
6th phase:
Pilot
7th phase:
Implementation
8th phase:
Consolidation
9th phase:
Capitalisation
Researching change and companies in order to be able to make an informed decision for or against change.
Analyses to determine the complexity, depth and extent to which the change will affect the company as well as critical areas and to select a suitable change mode.
Optional phase to supplement and deepen the analyses of the diagnosis, but also as an opportunity to validate hypotheses of the diagnosis.
Planning the change by developing a change strategy and concept to implement and integrate the change.
Preparation for change implementation by procuring and compiling all resources defined in the change concept and symbolic transition from theory to practice through an official kick-off event.
Review and testing of the change strategy and concept by implementing and applying the change to a defined part of the company. Any necessary corrections and adjustments become apparent as a result
Implementation and application of the change strategy and concept to the entire target area in the company.
Transferring and integrating the implemented change into the corporate culture and anchoring the change in corporate practice.
Formal transformation of the change as a project into a permanent corporate value and conclusion of change management.

Who developed International Multidisciplinary Change Management?
In 2018, amontis, as a partner of ACMC®, translated the compendium into German and translated the content into a seminar with which the content of the IMCM® can be conveyed didactically and practically.
